Twin brothers Jay and Jed Johnson arrived in
New York from Sacramento, California, in 1968
having just turned nineteen. Both became involved
in the famous Andy Warhol Factory scene where
Jed worked in movie production. Jay was soon
hired as an assistant to fashion designer Giorgio
di Sant Angelo. A muse for numerous important
photographers, including Francesco Scavullo,
Richard Avedon, and Cecil Beaton, he later left
New York for a modeling career in London and
Paris. After working in Europe for several years
he returned to Manhattan to help his brother in
his newly formed interior design company becoming Jed Johnson’s first design assistant and
business manager.
After Jed’s tragic death in the TWA flight 800
plane crash of 1996, Jay assumed the presidency
of Jed Johnson Associates, Inc. “Jed established
a phenomenally successful design firm,” says Johnson. “I am very fortunate to have retained
many of the same outstanding designers, support
staff and artisans who worked closely with him
and helped him achieve that success. We are
appreciative of the many repeat clients we have
served through the years.”
